Gus and Greta's first Halloween

Since Halloween falls on a week day this year, we probably won't be doing much celebrating beyond handing out candy to the trick or treaters. That said, we knew that we would never be forgiven if we didn't dress the twins up in some ridiculous outfits and take pictures. We still have not stopped laughing from this photo shoot. Here you go:

Fall Fun

The weather in Portland has been glorious this month - we are having a real fall, complete with crunchy leaves and crisp, sunny weather. Here are some pics from the last few weeks...

We live close to a pod of awesome food trucks, including our favorite breakfast sandwich makers, The Big Egg. Timing is crucial, but if we do it right and roll in right when they open, it's a nice morning outing that lets the twins burn off some energy before their morning nap. If we time it wrong, we cancel our order and go back home to eat oatmeal.

We went for a walk around the block last weekend. It only took about 45 minutes, but we made it!

I had to explain the concept of "zone defense" to Eric. It's often easier than man-to-man coverage, especially when obstacles, distractions or stairs are involved.

I love Gus swinging his hips!

Blowing thier minds by throwing leaves in the air.

We watched the Jets beat New England last weekend!

Gus gets a dandelion tutorial at the park.

 Greta runs the bases.

Fall running is the best - if I can get out early the fog makes it even more beautiful.

Speaking of running, Stephen, Laura, Katie, Barry and I ran a 10K in Astoria a few weeks ago. The race goes across the 4-mile long bridge connecting Washington and Oregon. It was spectacular.

Post race celebration.

11 months ... and this chair thing is getting old.

Quality control has officially ceased with these monthly photo shoots, in favor of safety and the preservation of parental sanity. This was the second night of attempting to capture their 11-month-old adorableness. The first night was pretty much a disaster:

Anywhere other than the chair, they were angelic little toddlers. Put them in the chair and they turned into squirming, crying, red-faced snotty-nosed monsters. Greta thinks this is some kind of joke.

Eric calls these her "Fredericks of Hollywood" PJ's.

Gussy cooperated for about 5 seconds, but of course the flash didn't go off.

I have been stressing out about the obligatory trip to the pumpkin patch. Outings like that are so stressful since they are still napping twice a day, and their meals take FOREVER. Thinking of the crowds, the traffic and the very strong probability we would end up with 2 very grumpy kids at the end of it all...  well, it just didn't seem worth it for a couple of pictures. Next year it will be a different story as they will probably enjoy themselves, but this year, after much thought, we came up with an alternative, which was to buy some pumpkins, put them on our porch, dress the kids in their Sunday finest, and take some pictures. I have to say it was much better and less disruptive to all of us!
