Springtime is Swingtime

I remember taking Seamus to the park and putting him in the baby swing for the first time even though he was probably too small for it (see pictures here). Turns out the solution to the problem of the too-big-swing is to stick another baby in there. Gus + Greta = perfect fit!

In other news...

Greta is officially crawling! It's funny because she was a little behind Gus in the "up on all fours" action but once she figured that out she wasted no time in learning how to move. Gus seems content to hang out on all fours, sometimes pushing himself into a downward dog position and sometimes propping himself up to a semi-sitting position, but so far no crawling. We are encouraging him to take all the time he needs.

Gus loves his Uncle Stephen. We walked over to the food carts on Sunday morning with Stephen, Katie and Barry. It's the only "eating out" we have attempted with the twins, aside from a brief appearance at a happy hour a few weeks ago.

For the past 2 weeks I have been trying to get some good pictures of Greta - she is so hard to photograph! (As opposed to Gus who will always mug for the camera and flash his crooked smile.) Out of approximately ten million photos, there were only a few that were not blurry. I do like this one, though. She took a half second to humor me after watching me chase her around the living room with the camera for 20 minutes.

Here we go!

I mentioned in the post below that both babies are really close to crawling. It is all they can think about and there will be no rest for any of us until they figure it out. In the last few days they are finally able to make some forward progress - frequently by launching forward with their legs and landing on their face - but so far they are not able to get their arms to cooperate. We're bracing ourselves!

6 months!

Gus and Greta are six months old today - I can't believe it! We had a good appointment today where out pediatrician declared them to be "perfect," naturally. Gus is 17 pounds 5 ounces, 27 inches, and Greta is 14 lbs 11 oz and 26.5 inches. We love this age so much - every day is an adventure!

Noticing each other... sort of

It seems so sweet like they are trying to hold hands but really they just want to chew on each other.

Catching up...

Almost immediately after the twins were born I remember thinking about the newborn vortex we were about to enter and saying, "I wish we could just fast forward 6 months." Well I think my wish came true because it seems like I blinked and here we are, less than 1 week away from their 6 month birthday. We are loving this age! Both twins are about 5 minutes away from crawling so I don't think we will have much more time in this relatively easy stage where they can play independently but not move.

Lots to catch up on but I'm just going to post a bunch of pictures for now:

My mom and sister Annie were out for a quick visit a couple of weekends ago to throw Katie a bridal shower. It was a lovely afternoon and a pretty laid back affair, which is how Katie prefers her bridal showers.

One of the best gifts was this quilt from our Grandma O. Hand-made by a 97 year old - can you believe it?

Yesterday I was getting the twins ready to go for a walk - hoping they would nap in the stroller since it had been a long day of cat napping for both of them. I got Greta situated in the stroller and came back for Gus to find him asleep on the floor.

The weather has been amazing this weekend - in the 80s both Saturday and Sunday. Gus and Greta helped Eric with some yard work this morning.

Lastly, we've begun the messy foray into solid foods. So far they are not exactly into it. Then again, I haven't told them about pizza yet.
